about

Volume I of a two-part live album...

Recorded live over our two sets at Harefest at Harefield Hall in Pately Bridge, where The Bar-Steward Sons joined the bill with Drunk In Public (Levellers & Rev Hammer), Dan Donnelly, New Groove Formation, Maelor Hughes, Gaz Brookfield, Shanks' Pony and many other great acts.

Sadly the band were one man down as Andy was unable to make it after a bizarre Record Store Day accident, but we were lucky to acquire the fabulous banjo-picking services of our long-lost brother from another mother, Delmar Doonican. We were also joined by reinforcements at the end of Saturday's set by special guests Gaz Brookfield and Simon Friend too. Which was nice!

However, when the organisers, Mike & Elaine asked us if we would do a second set on the Sunday, Delmar had already returned to the swampy deltas of Blacker Hill.

Fortunately, over a few pints and a chat in the bar that evening, we discovered another branch to the ever-expanding Doonican family tree in the form of mandolin player Duck Doonican (who coincidentally was an absolute ringer for Simon Friend from The Levellers, but had much better hair and impeccable taste in knitwear)!

We also made the executive decision to do a completely different set on the second day (with the exception of the finale, as it would have been rude not to).

This album is dedicated to all of the fabulous people who were in the crowd, Simon & Gaz(funkle), Ed who provided the amazing sound over the weekend, Mike & Elaine at Harefield Hall, all of the amazing acts who graced the stage that weekend, and to the legendary Andy Doonican, who, at the time of writing, is making a speedy recovery.
